Carol Hegedus, the owner/artist of Handmade Tile Studio, specializes in creating handcrafted tiles that are inspired by nature -- in the shape of birds, flowers, leaves, insects, etc. Each mosaic style art tile is hand-cut from soft, high-fire clay. Then it is dried, glazed with brilliant colors and fired in a kiln up to four times. The tiles are of the highest quality and artisanship and each is one-of-a-kind. Due to the nature of handmade ceramics, slight variations in size, color, or accents add to the charm of each piece. All of the tiles are 3/16th inch thick and are weather tolerant.
These decorative art tiles lend themselves to an endless variety of possibilities. Carol combines them into colorful mosaic murals and also sells the individual tiles to other mosaic artists. To purchase handmade tiles, you are welcome to make an appointment to visit my studio. I'm sorry, but I am not able to accommodate phone or email orders for tiles at this point.....if you are interested in my tiles and live too far from Tucson to visit, please check this site later -- I'm considering offering specific handmade tiles on this site but it will take a bit of time to get that established.
For a schedule of upcoming classes, please look under the 'CLASSES' page of this web site -- the project prices and registration form are also available there. The next class date is November 15, 2014 -- guest mosaic artist, Sue Betanzos will join me to do a project that combines my handmade tiles with commercial glass tiles. A variety of my mosaic artwork is available at Desert Artisans Gallery, 6536 E. Tanque Verde, Tucson.
